RIA Novosti: Serbia's Tadic admits Kosovo split option

BELGRADE, September 30 (RIA Novosti) - Serbia's president said on Tuesday he would not rule out dividing Kosovo into Albanian and Serbian parts if all other options to keep the disputed state within Serbia fail.

Speaking on the national RTS TV channel, Boris Tadic mentioned the idea of splitting the province along ethnic lines, an option previously suggested only by political commentators.

"I am ready to consider this option if we exhaust all others, which however are enough for finding a solution to fix the status of autonomy for the region," he said.

Kosovo unilaterally declared its independence in February and has been recognized by 47 of the 192 UN member states.

Tadic said, however, that currently the division of Kosovo is not on the agenda, and that Serbia is ready to continue its diplomatic struggle to preserve national territorial integrity.[...]
